Optimise your website for maximum exposure

Search engine optimisation or ‘SEO’ as it’s commonly called, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to your website. This happens through having your website appear high up in the ranking of search engine results. Paul Myers of Optimas Solutions offers some tips on how to go about it.
Here are a few SEO tips to test and trial
Keywords
Use keyword suggestion tools to research keyword phrases related to your website. You can do that here or here. This helps to develop and target your keyword terms to match what your customers are searching for. When you know them, include your main keyword phrases throughout the pages on your website not just on your index page.
Article exchanges
Article exchanges are a great way to create links to your website. Writing articles on your topic of expertise show your customers you know what you are talking about, they create interest in your website and most importantly they send relevant one way links back to your website, so increasing your page rank.
Linking strategy
Building a solid incoming or inbound linking strategy into a website design or maintenance project is an important part of your website’s SEO strategy. The reason for this is because search engines look at incoming links almost like a vote for your website. By this I mean when a website, preferably a high ranking or ‘authority’ website links to your site the search engine realises that your site has some relevance and gives a vote in your favour, adding to page rank.
Here are a few link-building tips to keep in mind, to build higher quality incoming links:
- Try to achieve incoming/inbound links that are one-way, rather than reciprocal. A one-way link has more value.
- Build incoming links from relevant websites of a similar industry, again adding more relevancy to the content within your web site Also it is only ever worth generating incoming links from “authority websites” , these being high quality and popular websites, generally web sites with a page rank of four or more, whenever possible.
- If you are aiming to get internal pages within your site to rank better then try to get inbound links linking directly to that page. This can be done by producing articles specifically about the content on the desired page and linking back to it from the article.

Comment: Good article Paul - don't forget about Google Analytics as most people don't install this simple piece of free software that can provide websites with a fantastic overview of their statistics; what is working; what isn't working and what search terms are working for them. Glad to see another SEO guru on EN.
