Q&A with Horary Astrology

horary astrology

26/10/2008 send to a friend

Janet Lennox is a home business owner who gets asked lots of questions. That’s because she’s a practitioner of horary astrology. Never heard of such a thing? Nor had we. It’s an ancient form of astrology specifically used for answering questions. We ask Janet some questions of our own.

What first sparked your interest in astrology?

Back in 1993 I decided to do a refloxolgy course and literally got 'cold feet' a couple of weeks before the course was due to start. A friend suggested that I had my natal chart read, so I went along with the intention of finding out if reflexolgy was right for me.  I was so fascinated by what she had to say that I decided not to do the reflex course and instead did a tarot course followed by an astrology course.

How did you discover horary astrology?

Originally I was doing a modern astrology course and one of the guys on the course was also doing horary. I'd never heard of horary and was again fascinated but didn't get round to doing anything about it for another 10 years!

What is the most challenging question you’ve ever been asked?

Most questions are sensitive and all are challenging. I must admit that when I first started, I thought that the majority would be 'love' questions but this is a rarity. I'll list a few questions I have answered, it will give you an idea of what people want to know. Will my baby be born naturally or will I be induced/Will the barn sell/What’s Ed up to/ Where is my ring?

If people act on your responses on what are important matters, do they stay in touch and let you know the outcome?

More often than not they do stay in touch. I prefer this as feedback is good to have.

From which room in the house do you work?

I have a separate room in which I work and see clients.

Crazy question, maybe, but do you need to see the stars from where you work?

I don't literally need to see the stars but I do need to know the planetary movement of any given moment.  Astrologers use an 'Ephemeris' which lists the cycle of the planets on a daily basis.  I also use an astrology computer programme.

The design and feel of your website is great. Did you know what you wanted and brief your developer or did she come up with the design?

I didn't have a clear idea about what I wanted so Debbie gave me a wide choice of possibilities.  I was certain that I wanted to use the astrology clock and love the fact that although the clock can be seen, it’s only a partial image and reflects that sometimes we need something extra in order to see a fuller, clearer picture. Also the sliding image shows our shifting thoughts and feelings.  On the whole I'd say it’s mainly thanks to Debbie...I love it :)

How are people finding out about you and your services?

I have been doing astrology and tarot for 15 years now and have a large clientele. I have never had to advertise as clients come through word of mouth and recommendation. The horary is slightly different in that I can get to a wider audience as I don’t have to physically see people, hence the web site.  I have also recently joined WIRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) and hope that brings in more business and I'm currently toying with the idea of having the local press do a feature article.  Most people have never heard of horary astrology so it’s really about getting the message out there.

Has trade increased in these terms of uncertainty?

Funnily enough....yes it has. The more unsettled and uncertain the climate is, the more people need reassurance.
