A government grant scheme to fund the installation of electric vehicle charging equipment in offices, accommodation, schools and other workplaces has been extended for another year.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS), set up in 2016, provides grants to cover 75% of the cost of installing up to 40 electric vehicle chargepoint sockets, capped at £350 per socket.

The scheme was due to close on 31 March this year but future of roads minister Lilian Greenwood announced that it has been extended to 31 March 2026.

As of 1 January 2025, grants totalling £21.8m have funded the installation of 59,279 sockets in workplace carparks, excluding schools, since the scheme started in 2016. In schools, 1,407 sockets have been funded with grants of £3.1m.
