The government is encouraging business owners to share their views on whether the UK should retaliate to the US's new trade tariffs.
Following Donald Trump's announcement that the US will impose a 10% tariff on the goods importing from the UK to the US, business secretary Jonathan Reynolds announced a "call for input" from businesses.
Speaking in Parliament, Reynolds said the government is looking for views until 1 May on products that could potentially be included in any UK tariff response. If an economic deal is completed with the US that lifts the tariffs, the request for input will be paused, and any measures flowing from it will be lifted.
Reynolds added:
"It remains our belief that the best route to economic stability for working people is a negotiated deal with the US that builds on our shared strengths. However, we do reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary if a deal is not secured."
Businesses can see an indicative product list to demonstrate what products may be subject to any future UK tariff response here, and respond to the call for input here.
