About your Local Leader: Michael Millward

Michael Millward is a HR and learning professional with over forty years’ experience in different sizes and types of employers, industries, and countries.

He specialises in providing people management solutions for start-ups and smaller organisations.

He runs several HR and learning related businesses, including Abeceder which provides a logical hiring to retiring people management solution.

Michael is a writer, contributing regularly to several business publications and websites. He is also the creator and host of the Abeceder Quotation Conversations which are hosted by Bookboon. His favourite listener feedback was 'you don't tell me what to think, but you do make me think'

When he is not working you will find Michael in a gym, up a hill, or on a stage. In 2022 he had his first speaking role in a feature film.

A business focused HR adviser with practical solutions for start-ups, SME, and larger employers, in the UK and globally. Michael Millward started his career in HR in 1981. In the intervening years he has worked in a wide range of businesses from start-ups to multinational conglomerates in the UK and around the world. His industry experience includes HR and training in: digital and creative, manufacturing, professional services, distribution, telecommunications, retail, mining, e-commerce and public sector. He has a straight-forward approach to HR based on his belief that HR exists to increase employee productivity, improve employee engagement and balance employee results and employee reward. His focus is very much on creating workable solutions. Michael has a MSc in Human Resource Management and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. For ten years he volunteered with the Institute serving for eight years on the Institutes National Council and for six years as chair of the North Yorkshire branch. He has also been a volunteer ambassador for the National Training Awards. In 2004 he established Abeceder to deliver his approach to logical employee management to businesses of all types and sizes.
