How to use ChatGPT to simplify your marketing strategy

How to use ChatGPT to simplify your marketing strategy

Posted: Thu 14th Nov 2024

ChatGPT has exploded in popularity among digital marketing experts, and with good reason.

Any client I've supported with using it has been blown away by how quick, accurate and easy to it is. While the marketplace is now flooded with competitors, those tools struggle to measure up to this free service.

As an ICF and EMCC-trained coach, I understand the importance of a question. You ask a closed question, you get a closed answer. If you ask a leading question... well, you get the gist.

ChatGPT has the capacity to be the best member of your marketing team, but only if you feed it the relevant information. Here are some tips:

  1. Be clear and concise in what you're seeking from it

  2. Help it understand the audience you're talking to

  3. Set your desired tone

  4. Set any other parameters you want it to adhere to

  5. Add any keywords you want to use (or avoid using)

Nine easy ways to use ChatGPT for marketing

1. Brainstorm your marketing objectives

If you're completely new to marketing, ChatGPT can help you from the ground up. Even if you've been in the game for a while but want to get back to basics and start thinking outside the box, ChatGPT can support you.

As a way to humanise the experience, I usually give ChatGPT a title like "marketing manager" and start the conversation with the context of our "meeting". For example:

"Today, we're going to brainstorm a marketing strategy for Parene, an online membership platform for moms in business."

2. Personalise your customer interactions

Have you ever walked into a shop and the assistant knew exactly what you were looking for? As a result, you left having spent more than you intended, but satisfied at the same time? ChatGPT can help you create that experience for your customers.

The more information you can feed ChatGPT in terms of demographics, interests and buying habits, the more it can create dynamic and personalised messaging. This is going to leave your customer feeling seen and heard, which leads to higher engagement and conversions.

My winning advice: Share with ChatGPT what your secret sauce is that helps you stand out from your competition. Highlight what you think are the key benefits. You can compare it to industry trends, build in your keywords and let ChatGPT work its magic.

3. Generate and optimise your content

Whether you sell shoes, have a very specific niche, or have a one-size-fits-all solution, we all have writer's block. Businesses are getting more innovative and creative every day with the different ways they're engaging their customers with content.

ChatGPT can help you generate high-quality content by providing topic suggestions, helping you overcome writer's block, and refining your drafts. It can lay out the whole end-to-end process for you.

If you've perfected your marketing strategy and understand what channels you're posting on, ChatGPT (your new writing intern) can assist you with:

  1. brainstorming ideas

  2. building a strategy

  3. creating engaging content

Creating engaging and relevant content is vital for SEO success. Additionally, you can leverage ChatGPT to optimise your existing content for search engines and make sure your website ranks prominently in relevant searches.

ChatGPT can help you to create different personalities for each of your audience so you can really speak to them through your content. It can even help you in deciding what content may best work for your audience and align with your value proposition.

4. Manage your social media

With new trends emerging daily, how do you schedule your content and stay up to date?

I tell my clients to consider social media as their online store. You need to let your customers know you're still open and trading. If you aren't showing up during your expected opening hours, you're telling the algorithm – and your clients – that you're closed for business.

Managing your social media can be time-consuming, and ChatGPT is a fabulous way to help lessen the burden.

Whether you schedule your posts once a week or every month, your new scheduling partner can help you create content that resonates with your ideal client. ChatGPT can help give you recommendations on when to start, but keep in mind that you know what's best for your business.

Reminder: The data ChatGPT uses is at least two years old, so it may not be aware of all the latest trends. However, as a natural language AI, it can learn from you. It doesn't remember conversation to conversation, so keep it in the same thread if it's long-winded.

5. Develop email marketing campaigns

Crafting compelling email marketing campaigns can significantly boost your your business's growth. With ChatGPT, you can optimise your email marketing efforts by generating attention-grabbing subject lines, creating personalised email templates, and even automating email sequences.

This allows you to nurture leads, drive conversions, and build long-term relationships with your subscribers.

I have a client who found out the name of her customers' pets. She's now able to send them emails about the new products they can buy for their furry friends. It's that little personal touch that helps her stand out and has her customers coming back for more.

6. Build and develop chatbots

Chatbots have revolutionised customer support and engagement. By leveraging ChatGPT, you can build intelligent chatbots that give your website visitors instant assistance and valuable information.

With its natural language processing capabilities, ChatGPT allows chatbots to understand users' queries accurately and respond in a conversational manner, enhancing the overall user experience.

You can build out your FAQs in minutes and have your chatbot greet your customers for that boosted support 24/7.

7. Optimise via SEO

Achieving higher rankings in search engine results is a top priority for businesses aiming to increase their online visibility. ChatGPT can contribute to your SEO efforts by providing valuable insights into keyword research, content optimisation and link-building strategies.

By harnessing the power of ChatGPT, you can develop an effective SEO roadmap and improve your website's search engine performance.

Here is where things can get really interesting. If you let the conversation naturally unfold like you are talking to an SEO expert (albeit one whose knowledge is two years old), it takes away the guesswork and can help you build a strong campaign strategy.

8. Analyse data to gain new insights

Making data-driven decisions is essential for driving marketing success. ChatGPT can help you analyse complex datasets, generate comprehensive reports, and extract insights you can put into action.

By leveraging ChatGPT's analytical capabilities, you can uncover hidden patterns, identify opportunities for growth, and refine your marketing strategies based on real-time data.

It's not the algorithm that's hurting you, it's your messaging. If you're struggling to get in front of your customer, you may need to double-check the data. What is resonating with your audience and what isn't? Have a chat with ChatGPT and see what information it can provide.

9. Increase your conversion rates

Boosting conversion rates is a critical aspect of any marketing strategy. And ChatGPT can play a significant role in this work.

By analysing user behaviour, understanding customers' preferences and providing personalised recommendations, ChatGPT can help you create targeted landing pages, optimise call-to-action buttons, and improve the overall user experience.
